Looking at the Panasonic TX-L37S10

The Panasonic TX-L37S10 is an entry-level LCD TV with Full High Definition capability. Entry-level means it’s not the heaviest TV on the wallet, but has solid functionality without a massive amount of extras.

The design isn’t anything special. Panasonic has not innovated but rather stuck to the now conventional sleek black look that most of its brothers have.

Looking at the back of the TV, we get a pleasant surprise by finding, in addition to the usual sockets, 3 HDMI input slots and an SD card slot. These HDMI slots are great in today’s high-definition obsessed world. Even if you don’t own a Blu-ray player, high-def digital camera, or games console, you may do soon, so its good to have the option for the future.

The SD card socket is great for boring friends and family with your holiday/wedding photos, directly on the screen. Not only that, but the TX-L37S10 allows you to choose from 3 types of background music and 4 display effects whilst you view the images.

The lower price tag does not mean that Panasonic has ripped out some of their brand-name goodies. One major piece of technology included is their Viera-standard IPS Alpha control panel, meaning:

Even if you are sitting at a tight angle to the television the picture is still crisp and sharp, without paling of the image. This is ideal if your sofa is not facing the screen, or you have several people round to watch the game.

The Panasonic TX-L37S10 also boasts new backlight technology that boosts contrast ratios up to 50, 000 to 1. This technology constantly monitors what is going on on the screen and adjusts backlight to produce the best possible image.

One drawback of cheaper LCDs is motion blur or halo around moving images. The Panasonic TX-L37S10 does not suffer from this, producing extremely sharp, crystal clear images with stable color and line.

There is also an ‘Eco Mode’ which results in less power consumption. However, you will need to play around with contrast and brightness to get best results.

One of the best things about the TX-L37S10 is the built-in free-to-air receiver. The pictures produced by the television are stable and almost noiseless. Panasonic really knows how to upscale standard definition and this is also shown in DVD output.

New Panasonic technology is also included in the sound system. V-Audio surround sound is supposed to alter the depth of the sound to suit the size of your room. It does this using sensors on the front of the TV that pick up reflections of projected sound and adjust it. The TX-L37S10, however can’t really take the most advantage of this with its rather weedy speakers.

The full high-definition output is handled exceptionally well, handling HD Blu-ray signals with ease. Colors of animated graphic films are bright and vibrant, and high-color images in normal films are realistic.

So, in summary, the Panasonic TX-L37S10 is a great all-rounder. For Full HD images at great contrast, with built-in Freeview, at a price that is affordable, you can’t really go wrong.
